Workshop with Dan in Cambria, California!

Hello aspiring painters, past and present students, and lovers of the great outdoors,
I have a fun and exciting propostion for you. I am teaching a multi-day painting workshop this coming June, and I'd love to have you join us. The focus of the event is to teach you how to stretch out artistically and get into a rhythm of your own; working through bad habits, negative preconceptions, and technical hurdles- the things which bind you up and keep you from producing the work that effectively communicates your message in paint. dan teaching in malibu
Traditionally the workshop format pairs you with a mentor/instructor who challenges you to reach within yourself so that you can attain your next personal plateau. It is taught over a period of days so that students can have the freedom to fail and still have time to succeed. It is a fun, relaxed environment where no one feels pressured to make 'Great Art,' but rather enjoys the space to take chances and push personal boundries. It is a thing you leave from with stories to tell your friends and a notebook full of keen observations and new ideas. It is a place where you get out of yourself so that you can find yourself.
Those of you who have worked with me before are familiar with my strengths as an instructor; It is not my goal to teach you to paint like me, but to paint like you. My personal style is to tailor my instruction to each individual based on their unique desires and challenges. I believe that art and spirit are one, and that good art comes from our spirit; students who tap into this power will get results that are permanent game changers.

Allow me to share some quotes from former workshop students-

"I had such an amazing weekend! Dan taught me techniques which will allow me to confidently reach for the next level."
- Carrie Stanton
"Dan's workshop provided me with basic tools I believe will help me continue to grow."
-Cheryl Goss
"Dan helped me understand the values of light and shadow and having a plan before you start."
-Drexel Smiley

I would like meet in beautiful Cambria, California, where I have a great place to paint, a great place to stay when the painting is done, and a line on at least two good places to eat. The Fogcatcher Inn at 6400 Moonstone Beach Dr. (phone,805-927-1400,)is currently holding ten double occupancy Garden View rooms for our group at a rate of $140.00 a night, (before tax,) until the 9th of May. You might bring your significant other or double up with another student and save a little bit. We will have access to the Inn's meeting areas for group critiques and impromptu Q. & A.'s. The workshop itself will run from Thursday June 6th through Saturday, June 9th. A schedule of events is listed below.

Thursday- Afternoon critique session 1:30
Friday- All day painting from 9:00-3:00 (one hour lunch break at noon)
Saturday- All day painting from 9:00-3:00 (one hour lunch break at noon)
Total cost of instruction; Price has been lowered to $250!
As you can see, I plan to start the session off with a group critique, where I will look at your work and formulate a strategy for your weekend painting efforts, identifying your strengths and trouble spots so that you can get the most out of Friday and Saturday.

We will be painting along one of the California Park System's most artist-friendly coastal parkways, with rich views of the pounding surf and the pine-dotted bluffs above it. Who knows, we may even take our sketch pads and trek up to the sea lion preserve to do some drawing. This promises to be a great opportunity to learn a whole lot in a very short time, as we will be exclusively dedicated to our art and ourselves. Space is limited. I don't think I can teach more than fifteen students without significantly diluting the experience for the others. Please contact me through my email at dan@danlavigne.com, or by calling me at 805-218-3161. I will accept payment by credit card, check or cash, and all payments should be received by April 20th, 2012 to make the experience as smooth as possible for all. Hope to see you there!
